Reasons for which you should definitely shoot a film in Tunisian beaches !

Natural views are one of the most beautiful sceneries that you can lay your eyes on, especially beaches. The mixture between the bluer color of the sea and the sky and the way it melts with golden sand can’t but make you feel at ease and relieved. Moreover, beaches have always been a perfect destination for filmmakers. In this article, we will enlighten you with what makes you eager to shoot your film on a beach and the specificities of the Tunisian ones.

What are the different types and characteristics of beaches?

As we have already mentioned, there are different types of beaches with different specificities. We can find:

White sandy beaches:  Beautiful photos can be taken on the white sandy beaches, especially if there is lush vegetation and blue sea and sky in the background. These are also very popular beaches. Most of the time, the sand on these beaches comes from quartz or small pieces of coral.

Beaches of black sand:  In contrast to the light spectrum, beaches near black rocks, such as the volcanic basalt of Hawaii, usually have dark grey or black sand.

Shellfish beaches:  Few beaches in the world are entirely shellfish. They are generally quite different from each other and are found in Australia, South Africa, and the United States.

Red sand beaches: Coastlines with large iron-rich mineral deposits sometimes have a bright red color. There is a red sand beach in Hawaii, another in Greece, and one on the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador.

Green sand beaches: There are some green sand beaches, which are composed of olivine crystals. When the waves cause erosion of the smallest grains of sand, only the heavier olivine remains, which creates beaches of an unheard tone.

Beaches of geometric rocks:  These are probably not the most pleasant places to lie in the sun or swim, but some beaches in the world are made of beautiful rocks. The Giant’s Causeway in Ireland is funnily made of weathered basalt, leaving species of interconnected hexagonal pillars that look far too regular to have been created by nature.

Such diversity gives film makers a wide range of opportunities to shoot outstanding films!

Why choose Tunisian beaches?

The Tunisian coast presents several well-differentiated landscapes:

  • The sandy beaches which occupy about 575 km, constitute the most present landscape on the Tunisian coasts and are home to most of the population, mostly in the bays and gulfs of the eastern facade of the country;
  • The approximately 400 km of cliff-top coastline, which is mainly found on the north and east facades of the main capes;
  • The coastline with sandy dunes, covered with forest afforestation (Zoueraa, Bizerte, Gammarth, Oued Abid, Medfoun, Ghedhabna);
  • Wetlands.

What films have been shot on Tunisian beaches?

A lot of films took place in Tunisia, and one of them is the famous “Un été à la Goulette” which is a Franco-Belgo-Tunisian film directed in 1996 by Férid Boughedir with Mustapha Adouani, Michel Boujenah, and the participation of Claudia Cardinale. This masterpiece showed the marvelous beach of “La Goulette” at its finest, and it is a must-watch !
